The Comrie Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Comrie Development Trust who is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee established in 2007. The Comrie Development Trust is leading the work in Comrie. Our Patrons are Joan Carmichael, Andy Gairns and Lorna Ramsay.
The Trust is owned and controlled by local people and already has a membership of approaching 700 people, over one- third of those eligible and the best represented Development Trusts in the country.
The remarkable achievements and progress of the Trust to date include:
- In September 2007 we purchased 90 acres of land on the edge of our village under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2009
- Our community ballot had a turnout of 72% (1,404) and a majority in favour of 96% (1,362). This is the most conclusive ballot result to date in the history of the Land Reform movement.
- We have secured over £1.5 million of investment to support our work in the first three years.
- Stage 1 of the development of Cultybraggan will opened last year and includes 30 allotments, a polytunnel for Comrie in Colour and over 25,000 sq ft of workspace for local businesses in 12 units of varying sizes.
- Local business Wilde Thyme moved in in March 2010 and will be closely followed by a mushroom growing business in the thriving food quadrant.
- We are advancing the development of a £2 million development of 12 eco pods as a community holiday rental business.
- We are exploring the idea of a biomass plant at the camp providing heat to enterprises on site and earning money for our community.
- We have launched Comrie Carbon Challenge to reduce the footprint of our whole community in a wide-ranging programme of action.
- We are a national exemplar project for the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund.
